About Us

Since I was 18 years old I have been doing construction for a living, and even before then I was picking up knowledge from my Father who did construction for most of his life as well. I started working in Virginia as a Licensed General Contractor before moving to North Carolina in 2000. In 2005, I started Herndon Handyman Service to put a name to my business before changing the name Herndon Contracting Service once I got my North Carolina License in General Contracting the same year. Since then I have been growing my business and connecting with more home-owners in the Triangle while living by the motto of, "It's better to do it right the first time."

Why DIY Consulting?

In my 30 years as a contractor, I have done innumerable jobs, and met innumerable home-owners; many of the home-owners I have met had the ability and/or drive to do the work themselves, but they were unsure of how to do the work and called me to do it instead. It was recently that I had the idea to do DIY consulting where home-owners who want to do their own home-improvements can call on me not to do the job for them, but instead hiring me to teach them how to do the job themselves and make sure they do it correctly and to code. By doing the work yourself, you can save anywhere from hundreds to thousands in labor costs. "You CAN do it, and we can show you how!"

Licensed and Insured

I have almost always had a License in Genera Contracting across my career. First, I had my Virginia License when I was still working in that state. More relevantly, I have had my license and Insurance for North Carolina since 2005. As a licensed contractor, I embrace having my work judged at a higher standard by both the customer and myself.
